Charlie Kaufman is an American screenwriter, producer, director and lyricist.

Charlie Kaufman started between 1983-1984 when he wrote comedic articles for National Lampoon, which included parodies of Kurt Vonnegut and the X-Men. His television career emerged when he wrote two episodes for Chris Elliott’s Get A Life.

He worked for Fox’s sketch comedy show, The Edge, and later worked as a writer for Ned and Stacey and The Dana Carvey Show.

One of his critically acclaimed works are Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

In 2008, he debuted as a director for Synecdoche, New York, which was received positively.

He has been nominated for three Academy Awards: twice for Best Original Screenplay for Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, winning the award for the latter, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Adaptation. He also won two BAFTA Awards for Best Original Screenplays, one BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and a Saturn Award for Best Writing.

Charles Stuart Kaufman was born on November 19, 1958 in New York City, New York. He attended NYU Film School. He have two children with his wife, Denise.
