Kenny Omega’s professional career began in the year 2001 by debuting in the Winnipeg-based promotion Premier Championship Wrestling (PCW). He then won the PCW Heavyweight Championship and the PCW Tag Team Championship in 2003 and 2004. Also, he won an eight-man tournament, defeating Nate Hardy, Chris Sabin, and Amazing Red, to win the Premier Cup and the NWA Canada X-Division Championship. He was then sent to Deep South Wrestling (DSW), WWE’s then-developmental territory for a tryout, after which he was offered a developmental contract and subsequently assigned to DSW full-time in October 2005. After a year, he requested his release from his contract.Then, he intended to forge a career in mixed martial arts and entered a few Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments before deciding to return to professional wrestling. He competed for Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW) and captured the JAPW Heavyweight Championship on 8th March 2008. DDT invited Omega to Japan to wrestle Ibushi, which Omega accepted; he made his first appearance for the promotion in August 2008. He and Ibushi then formed a tag team named the Golden☆Lovers.In 2011, Omega competed in a match against a nine-year-old girl named Haruka due to which he received death threats.He appeared for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) during the 2008 Battle of Los Angeles on 1st November 2008. At PWG’s hundredth show on April 12, 2009, he lost to Bryan Danielson. He appeared for the promotion Ring of Honor (ROH) on 25th July 2008 where he lost to Delirious. After that, he competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), losing to Prince Devitt in September 2010. At The New Beginning in Niigata on 14th February 2016, he defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the vacant IWGP Intercontinental Championship.On 6th January 2017, he stated that he would be “stepping away from Japan to reassess [his] future”, adding that he was “weighing all options”.In September 2018, he appeared at the independent event All In, where he defeated Penta El Zero.He departed NJPW after his contract expired at the end of January 2019. He then signed a four-year contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on 7th February 2019. In the main event of Full Gear on November 9, Omega was defeated by Moxley in an unsanctioned Lights Outmatch.At Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea Part Deux: Second Wave, which aired on 22nd January 2020 episode of Dynamite, he along with Adam Page defeated SoCal Uncensored (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Later, he and Page lost the AEW World Tag Team Championship to FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) on 5th September at All Out. From October to November 2020, he participated in a tournament to determine the number one contender for the AEW World Championship defeating Sonny Kiss, Penta El Zero M, and Adam Page to win the tournament.He also defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship for the first time, with the help of Don Callis and turned heel on 2nd December 2020. At Impact Wrestling’s Rebellion pay-per-view in April 2021, Omega defeated Swann in a Winner Takes All match to retain his AEW World Championship and also win the Impact World Championship.At Héroes Inmortales XIII, he defeated Fenix to win the title. On 1st December, he defended the title against Dragon Lee at Triplemanía Regia, where he was victorious.At Triplemanía XXVIII on 12th December 2020, he successfully retained the championship against Laredo Kid.
