Originating from Chester, Pennsylvania, Vincent Francis Papale was born on February 9, 1946. He attended Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. After graduation, he started his teaching career at the Interboro High School. While working as coach of the junior varsity football team, he auditioned in the World Football League as Philadelphia Bell’s wide receiver.
In 1976, he met Dick Vermeil, the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. At age 30, he debuted into the NFL which made him as the oldest rookie in the National Football League’s history to have ever played without any college football benefit. Three years later, he officially retired from the league due to a shoulder injury. After his NFL career, he spent the next eight years working as radio and TV broadcaster. Eventually, he became commercial mortgage banker.
In 2001, he found out that he was suffering from colorectal cancer. Currently based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, he is living with his wife named Janet, and their two children named Vinny and Gabriella.
